Arkansas Health Insurance High Risk PoolThe Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act established temporary national high risk pools to provide health insurance coverage to individuals with pre-existing conditions. The Federal Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) in Arkansas requires enrollees to pay monthly premiums and out-of-pocket expenses similar to normal Arkansas health insurance policies.
Residents with PCIP pay around the same amount that people without pre-existing conditions pay in the private insurance market. Recent estimated monthly premiums for Arkansas residents are $323 for ages 0 to 34; $387 for ages 35 to 44; $495 for ages 45 to 54; and $688 for ages 55 and older. Individuals with pre-existing conditions will be able to receive health insurance coverage for physician and hospital visits, prescription drug coverage, behavioral health services, emergency visits and surgeries, and more.
Enrollees in the Arkansas PCIP pay around the same amount that people without pre-existing conditions will pay. The estimated monthly premium rates for Arkansas residents will range from $156 to $624 a month. The deductible is set at $1,000 with an out-of-pocket limit at $2,000 for in-network health care services.
This allows Arkansas residents with pre-existing conditions to utilize prescription drug coverage, emergency services, pregnancy coverage, hospital services, behavioral health services, hospice care, home health care, skilled nursing, substance abuse services, and more.
Individuals are eligible to enroll in Arkansas PCIP if they are a United States’ citizen, have an existing medical condition, and have been without health insurance for six months. For more information on the Arkansas health insurance high risk pools visit http://www.chiparkansas.org/.
