Missouri Health Insurance High Risk PoolThe Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act established temporary national high risk pools to provide health insurance to those with pre-existing conditions. Residents in Missouri with pre-existing conditions are able to get health insurance coverage through the Missouri Health Insurance Pool (MHIP). This works similar to regular Missouri health insurance plans and require enrollees to pay monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs. Enrollees in the MHIP program pay around the same amount that people without pre-existing conditions pay for health insurance. The monthly premiums for coverage will start at $243 for ages 0 to 12; $370 for ages 18 to 29; $447 for ages 30 to 39; $501 to $972 for ages 40-64.
